Although he is very well known in Barrel Racing circuit, he has always been working (since he was very young)  on various types of soil, gaining experience in every sector (sport, equestrian or agricultural) and becoming a specialist in the processing of the most varied types of ground and footing.
Cutting, Team Penning, Jumping, sand fields, but also soccer and golf fields, grassy meadows, pastures for cattle and horse breeding: his jobs carried out over the years are really very numerous. Thanks to excellent results he has been hired by the most famous equestrian venues and national fairs to ensure the success of their most important events.

His reliability is the result of several factors:

• the experience he gained working for so many years in his family farm preparing  pasture and fields for planting and breeding
• his experience with the arenas around the States
• his trainer job that led him to understand how important is a very good ground for both riders that horses because it can influence performance and safety during a competition.

Giuliano had noticed in Italy there were many technical lacks in the preparation of arena ground and footing, and without a good base and proper footing …riders couldn’t do their best, and this problem penalized  his customers,  his horses, but also racing circuits all. For these reasons when he moved back to Italy after his long stay in the States, he decided to make available his experience providing a valued contribution  to improve quality of  Barrel Racing arena surfaces (and bases).
The surface is crucial to attracting riders, that’s also because NBHA (National Barrel Horse Association) engaged him for years as surfaces consultant,  appreciating his indisputable ability and the trust he inspired in the riders.

Everybody knows how many times he carried out special works on the ground, during important events, ensuring the success of those races.

Some meaningful events

Some events have particularly tested the ability of Giuliano. Just a few to mention:

• Colle Olivio Ranch, Barrel on the Green in 2015 – goal achieved: working the ground to get an ideal Barrel Racing type of footing where before there was only a meadow, and setting the barrels according to the American standard measures: due to the pretty high speed reached by the horses this work required every skills to ensure a good grip instead of recurring to the strategy of a possible narrowing  of measures to contain power and speed of the horses.
• Barrel Racing World Cup in 2011- CIT Firenze - a clear opportunity to show that if you are a good surfaces specialist you can turn the most sophisticated show jumping surface in a perfect footing suitable for the most demanding disciplines of Western Riding …and then bring it back how it was before.
• Fiera Cavalli a Roma in 2014 - this event engaged Giuliano to set just one riding arena competition for hosting three different western disciplines (Barrel Racing, Cutting (AICH) and Team Penning) with three different technical requirements and changing the setting of the ground in the short time available between one race and another.
• Arma di Taggia 2013-2014-2015, Barrel on the Beach: a real challenge to set a Barrel arena on the beach near the seaside, and to be able to provide the best possible going for all. Riders have really appreciated his job.
• Pinerolo, Federal National Equestrian School of Giovanni Agnelli in 2015 – Show Jumping FISE: not just works for Western Riding disciplines. General Distaso - demanding organizer of various national jumping competitions - hired Giuliano in this important occasion proving once again that an expert riding surfaces specialist deeply know every kind of ground mixtures and can manage competently with any type of arena footing.

In other situations  his service has made possible complete successfully some events that less experienced staff could not complete avoiding a disaster. A lot of riders undoubtedly remember for example  the Italian Championship Barrel Racing finals in Città di Castello (2011), or the Italian Youth Championship at Pratoni del Vivaro (2012), to mention just a few. Giuliano makes use of equipment for processing ground exported from the States. Somebody in Italy has also tried to reproduce that machine, but certainly it’s not possible ‘reproduce’ thousands of hours on the tractor acquired by the practice: sensitivity in the 'feel' the ground , perceiving the slightest depression or  potholes, to be able to calculate how and how much the humidity rate will affect the sand mixture, the skill to assess and better manage each ground and to deal with the most abrupt weather changes ... all this adds value to his work.
